Sometimes, you don’t realize just how fast you’re moving until you come to a screeching halt. Most of us are preoccupied juggling busy schedules or frantically forward-planning for the months to come. Add in a few external factors, the kind that generally accompany city-living and the rat race that comes with the territory — like a lengthy commute or hour-long traffic — and you have yourself a recipe for stress. Eva Holbrook and Jamie Williams were tired of living like that. So they decided to slow it right down.”We were both getting a little burnt out from city life and had actually been looking for a home in Hawaii,” explains the Bella Casa lead designer, home stager and yoga teacher. “Jamie is a surfer, so we knew that our getaway needed to have waves for him and beautiful nature for me. We ended up making an offer on a place on the north shore of Oahu but it fell through — so we took a break from looking for awhile. It was during a trip to the Amazon where the vision of our cabin in Bonny Doon suddenly came to Jamie, he came back super inspired and motivated to find us a special place in the forest.”The couple turned over ever stone in Santa Cruz County before they eventually found their ideal getaway home and retreat — Bonny Doon’s Forest Temple. A six-month long search led them to a quaint, tree-lined cabin embedded deep in the woods. Surrounded by natural life and neighboring the Santa Cruz mountains, Holbrook and Williams’ 1,650-square-foot home and 1,200-square-foot guest house, might just be the dreamiest place to recharge the batteries.Fancy the full tour of this restored woodland retreat?
